Your privacy matters
Foxance is a personal finance tracker built for individuals who want clarity over their spending. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, and what rights you have over it. We will never sell your data or use it for advertising.
Information we collect
When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. Your password is hashed using bcrypt before storage — we never store or have access to your plain-text password. When you use Foxance, we store the financial data you enter: transaction titles, amounts, dates, notes, categories, and payment methods. We may also collect basic technical information such as your browser type and IP address to keep the service secure and functional. We do not collect your bank account details, card numbers, or any payment credentials.
How we use your data
Your data is used solely to provide the Foxance service to you. This includes displaying your transactions and reports, allowing you to export your data, and sending transactional emails such as password reset instructions or email confirmation links. We do not use your financial data to build advertising profiles, and we do not share it with data brokers or marketing companies. We may use anonymised, aggregated usage statistics (e.g. how many users create a transaction per day) to improve the product — these statistics cannot be used to identify you.
Data storage and security
Your data is stored on servers hosted on Fly.io, a managed cloud platform with physical data centres in the European Union. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and are never recoverable by us. We apply access controls so that only your own data is accessible to your account — queries are always scoped to the authenticated user. We do not store financial data in browser local storage or unencrypted cookies. While we take reasonable and industry-standard precautions, no system is completely immune to risk. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password.
Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated personal data (profile information, transactions, and categories) is permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days. Data that has been included in anonymised aggregate statistics is not personally identifiable and may be retained. Backups are rotated and purged on a rolling basis; residual copies in backups are removed within 90 days of account deletion.
Third-party services
Foxance uses a minimal number of third-party services, limited to infrastructure: Fly.io for server hosting and AWS SES (or similar) for transactional email delivery. These providers process data only as necessary to operate the service and are bound by their own privacy and data protection commitments. We do not integrate with advertising networks, analytics trackers, or social media platforms. No third party has access to your financial transaction data.
Your rights
You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct inaccurate information, and to delete your account. You can update your name, email address, and password at any time from the Settings page. You can export all your transaction data as a CSV file from Settings > Export. To permanently delete your account and all associated data, contact us at privacy@foxance.com. If you are located in the European Economic Area, you also have rights under GDPR including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Children's privacy
Foxance is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify you by email. Continued use of Foxance after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
